Use What You Have: Garden Mechanics

A pretty red gladioli returning from previous years -- a new bulb forms atop the old one each year and eventually they're too shallow to stand upright without support. I fashioned a little prop from a dry culm from cutting back the vetiver grass. The leaves of the grass turn down and twist like a unicorn's horn as they dry. It gave the glad support and gave it a little something extra.

Blooming behind the glads are 'Little Gem' magnolia, rose campion, and some red begonias that spent the winter in the greenhouse.
